    HPT Or Hazard Perception Test

15 months, is the validity of HPT. These rules applies for learner drivers who have log book hours under the age of 25 years old. If you are overseas licence holders you may need to pass HPT before you sit for your driver tests. You do not require any set number of hours though to sit for the HPT in NSW.

During the examination, you will need to view and react to several videos illustrating various driving scenarios. Your task will involve identifying potential hazards and then specifying when and how you believe the driver should respond to each hazard.

On-screen dashboard information, including speed and indicator usage, will be provided, along with clarification regarding the driver's intentions in each video. It's important to note that this test is simulated, meaning you won't be required to actively control a vehicle at any point during the examination.

No assistance is permitted during the test. The Hazard Perception Test (HPT) is applicable to learner drivers, individuals seeking to convert to a probationary license, and those aiming to convert to a full license. Passing the HPT is a prerequisite for taking your driving test.
